What Can You Do?

Do you know how many children should work instead of studying?

Around the globe, approximately 250million children are suffering from deteriorated health and depleted education by engaging in labor. Child labor has been recognized as a global problem and many agree that things should be set right. Countries signed treaties and made restrictions but what is the change? We now have loads of laws and no action
Something should be done and quick.

What can you do for these children?

TGCP Made A New Tradition for Charity!

On November 30th, Sung Won Elementary school held a flea market to help the needed people in the neighbourhood and the students of the third world countries. The money was divided into three parts-for the poor to heat their houses in winter, for the elderly, and to support education in the third world countries. The school sent 455,290 Won to a School in Cambodia through COPION. The money was donated by the school's name, and the school decided to continue this flea market in the future to support the underprivileged. We TGCP are very proud and grateful of beginning this new charity act which will go on, even though we will soon graduate!

Let's Shoo Off The Power Vampires!

Let us shoo away the power vampire away!
Vampires are known to suck the living's blood
and power vampires are known to suck electricity and the life of our environment through tools known as plugs for unused devices.
Even now, as you read this, thirty million electrical devices are giving out 3.66W of electricity for a day.
In others words, it is like one power plant is churning on for wasted electricity.
Such horrible waste!
What do we need to stop this? Money? Social status? Tremendous amount of time? No, no, no,
All you need, the key for the problem is just to pluck the plugs with a small heart of care.
Let us pluck the plug and be the savoir of the environment!

Flea Market at Sung Won Elementary School in Chun-Cheon, Korea

Hello, this is Iris. As I've said before, I think publicizing TGCP is important, so I made an another video. It's about TGCP's Eco-Campaign. Please spread it on as many websites and blogs as possible.

Advertisement Video

Hello, this is Iris.
I strongly believe that publicizing and advertising and letting people know about TGCP is very much important. Because of this, I created an advertisement video. Please spread this video on as many web-sites and blogs as possible. All of you are welcome to use this video in any use.

The temporary president: Jaqueline Hastaway

-       TGCP England isn’t fully created yet, but there are about 40 members and they will hold the election soon. As soon as they hold the election, they will start to gather the donation money by having an art festival at their school.

Reporting from Canada

Hello, this is TGCP Canada's president Faith. Iris let me know about TGCP a few months ago, and I've been working to publicize it. I'll report about what is happening in Canada.

The Global Children in Canada

Vice president: Kiara Miles

I want to say greetings to all of the members, and I also say thank you to my friend Iris, for letting me know about TGCP, allowing me to become the Canadian president, and creating TGCP Canada and moreover, TGCP England.

The Second Meeting

Hello, this is Iris from Korea. I'm going to give you a broad view about what happend in our 2d meeting.

The Second Meeting of the Global Children Project
Date: November 5th, 2011
Place: Seoul Gangnam-gu “High End Academy”
Participation members: Maggie, Iris, Sydney, Gloria, Toby, John, Mr. H

Fundraising during Sep~Oct. 2011
Flee market at Sumusoup Library Oct. 29: 52,000 won (Maggie, Olivia, Iris, Sydney took part)
The book of Maggie “Evergreen”: 7700 X 26 = 200,200 won
Debate Guide for Rookies( Maggie’s sister) : 7000 X 42000 won

Total: 294,400 won

Tips for holding a Flee market
1.     It has to be under 5000 won.
2.     Do not try to sell old clothes.
How and Where to donate: Through Copion (http://www.copion.or.k/)
Every month, we’re going to send 50000 won~ 100000 won to Copion.
We will start sending the money starting in December. We will start by donating money for school supplies in Cambodia. We agreed that the donation money’s use will change every four months. For example, on the first donation; we will donate money to buy school supplies, on the second donation; we will donate money to buy stationary… and so on.
TGCP’s Bank Account
We were going to decide on the bank account number and the password, but John had a good idea. Because some of our parents have a lot of money in their bank account, we are going to use our parents’ bank account to save the TGCP money, to get more interest(이자).
Becoming Globalized
Countries that we will branch out: U.S, Spain, Ireland, Japan, Malaysia, Indonesia, Israel
Countries that we already branched out to: Canada, Singapore, and England
Campaigns
“Happy Race for Students in Cambodia”
-       We are going to hold a “three legged race”
-       People such as our friends and family will bet money on how far we will be able to run. The maximum amount of money is 1000 won, because we do not want to put any burden on them by requiring so much money.
-       We agreed that we will get together and hold the race at the same place: Seoul

“STICKER Campaign”
-       Gloria is capable of making and designing stickers. She will design stickers that have the TGCP and the Evergreen logo on it. One sticker will be sold for 50 won.

“Naver Happybean”
-       In the Korean portal site called “Naver”, there’s a donation program called “Happybean.”
A certain corporation would sponsor the happybeans. The happy beans are equal to money, and one happybean is equal to 100 won. We are thinking of asking Samsung to sponsor Happybeans for TGCP.

“Bridge”
-       We are thinking of asking broadcasting companies or corporations to donate money to TGCP. The reason that we think that this will be successful is that because we are thirteen and this is special. Our name, “The Global Children” allows people to know that we don’t only work in Korea, but all over the world.

Election
President: Margaret
Vice president: John
Chun Cheon’s president: Iris
Chun Cheon’s vice president: Sydney
Seoul’s president: Toby

Eco Campaign
-       Toby and John would hand out the paper to the class presidents at their schools.
(For other information, please look at the Eco-Campaign page in www.tgcproject.blogspot.com)

Registering as a legal organization
1.     It needs 100 members
2.     Every year, we have to prove that we did something worthy.
(However, registering as a youth organization and registering as a regular organization is a little different, so we’re still looking into it.)

-       I would also like to say special thanks to Mr. H for being with us, and coming all the from Yong-in to help us run the meeting.

About Cambodia

Hello, this is Margaret and from now on I am going to give a weekly report about Cambodia.

Climate
Being located in the tropical zone north of the equator, Cambodia has a monsoon climate. Monsoon season runs May - November, stretching from November/December - April. Immediately after the monsoon, the blanketing green of the countryside can be stunningly beautiful. In the north, winters are generally colder, while throughout most of the country temperatures remain fairly constant. The average year-round temperature in Cambodia is 27.7C (the highest monthly average being 35C, the lowest monthly average being 21C). There is often seasonal flooding in Phnom Penh and the rest of Cambodia in late July and early August. At the peak of the wet season it can rain as often as two in every three days.
Thank you

TGCP Eco campaign

The Global Children Project의
ECO Campaign

With our society stressed by the sickening environment, The Global Children Project have made an Eco campaign that encourages people to be more aware and alert of our current state of the environment. The first project done by the Eco campaign is to reduce the use of paper cups. In the process of manufacturing the paper cups a lot of money is costed and as timber is the staple source for the paper cup, a lot of logging should be done, clearing out the trees. By not using the paper cups, the money that is usually spent on the cups could be used to fund environmental institutions. Also, trees, indispensible for the ecosystem would be saved. The former Korean writing, which gives detailed information about the paper cups, was first distributed to the students in Seong Won Elementary school, in Chun Cheon. In the future, our organization is planning to spread the campaign to other schools.

This is Anne, currently reporting from Singapore.
I presume many of you have mistaken that Singapore is a perfectly safe country, with no natural disasters and terrorists. Did you know that in the corner, where the government is not looking, there are children crying secretely? Well, it is no exception for Singapore.

Any victim of family abuse, regardless of nationality, should seek and will receive assistance. The National Family Violence Networking System links social service agencies, schools, hospitals and the Police in order to provide multiple access points for assistance. Crisis shelters, medical treatment, psychological support, counselling, financial and legal aid are available to all victims of family abuse.

We recognise that foreign wives and their children may lack local family or kinship support, and deserve extra attention. Social workers at the crisis shelters work with these women to prevent and deter violence, provide support and practical assistance and safeguard their children. Affected children deemed to be at risk of harm will be assisted by the Child Protective Centre.Foreign wives are accorded the same protections as Singaporean women under the project. The Court may grant a Personal Protection Order in situations where family violence has occurred or is likely to occur. Charges may be brought against the perpetrator under the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt.

I have been to the orphanage (for charity programme) with Bryan, Jack and Lynette.
Many children looked bright and were bubbly. However in between them, there were few of them who looked solemn and completely desolated. How can we give hope to them? Bryan made fool of himself while trying to amuse them.

They were still not pleased.

We used to go to the orphanage once a week but nowadays under the examination pressure,we are restricted in our rooms, studying and consolidating our knowledge. However, we still would like to bring hope and laughter to the monotonous orphange.

1# The T-shirt collection

Hello this is Maggie.
Few weeks ago after the first meeting, we had agreed upon collecting T-shirts from schools to be sold in garage sales that open in schools and the local library. So the first act was targeted at Chun Cheon Sung Won elementary school where I attend. Another member, Olivia is also attending the same school, and we met each other for discussions of how to put the plan into action. So we produced a paper that contains precisely what we are planning to do at what time and at what location and gave it to our principle. This is what we handed out.

We visited our principle many times at lunch time or in between breaks so as to talk to him as much as possible and to get his approval of our plan. He gave his consent, saying that he believed that thirteen year olds can make a difference in the world, and he gave us a lot of advice to improve our agenda. We are to spread this plan to the whole school by using the school newspaper, the posters and by making speeches at the assembly. Also, the principle is going to talk to the teachers and is going to put it in the school homepage. Here I whole heartedly thank our principal and my trustful member Olivia. I'm sorry that the paper that we handed out is in Korean, but my school is a Korean school and they don't use english. Soon the T-shirts would be collected and be sold to people for the Global Children Project to help the children.

If you have a warm heart please email me at bambicuty@hanmail.net to share your ideas about the project or please send donations or any kind of clothing to the following address

The first meeting

On August 21th 2011 The Global Children had the first meeting at one p. m in Seoul, Geong Bok elementary school. The following members -Vanessa, Clara, William, Olivia , John and I, Maggie, were able to attend it.  With the help of one of our board member, Mr. Evan Hendricks the meeting had discussed of how getting donations should be carried out. For the money part, we divided it into two categories, of the individual and the schools. For the individual part we decided to get money from nearby people first, by making a fuzzy list. The least amount of money we would be collecting will be ten man won. Then, for the schools we have decided to collect T-shirts from local schools and sell them, which is a form of an investment. To persuade the students to give us their T-shirts we have to make the students into one. So we are going to make speeches and hang posters on the walls, with the permission of the principal. Also, we would be going around classrooms to meet teachers and tell them more about our organization , and to get their advice and help by getting a chance to speak in front of their classroom to the students.  The first act was carried out on August 24th 2011, starting from Chun Cheon Seong won elementary school.

TGC

Global=Covering or affecting the whole world
=is a vision or a view of a situation in which all the different aspects are considered
Children=A person not yet an adult.
Logo=The Ever Green tree
Motto='Every child has the right for an education, a chance to lead their life of ample knowledge'
We, the members of the Global Children, after raising enough money will start a company which sells stationeries and blankets, called the Ever Green. And when we have enough resources we will build a school for kids in Cambodia. One should not just give the fish, but help the people learn how to get the fish. Likewise, providing an education institution would be better than just giving out money.
Our Organization needs help

Hello
I am Maggie, the founder of The Global Children.
Imagine, children walking miles and miles in the scorching sun for a bucket of water. Children working in factories to pay off the huge debt their parents couldn't pay, and children who just can't go to school because they cannot afford the cost. Like this, millions of young children are not able to receive a proper education. This is a disastrous problem and should be looked at with sympathy and seriousness-and I whole  heartedly felt that something must be done about it. Many people would be saying, "What can a thirteen year old kid do any way?" my answer is, anything. So out came the 'The Global Children'. The Global Children is an organization which collects funds and all kinds of help from people world wide to stack up enough money to build a elementary school in Cambodia. With the help of our truthful, passionate members of the following-Iris, Sarah, Abygail, Jennifer, Liz, Clara, Olivia, John and William  the organization shall strive. We are going to go all around Korea to make speeches and raise funds in schools and have garage sales. This act may seem like a minor movement compared to the huge goal we are aiming at, but everything big didn't always started out gigantically. The ripple of our act would grow, and one day shoot right at our goal. Thank you.
