파키스탄 어린이 노동자

"I am 14 and I live in the slums of Karachi. I make blocks that are used in construction."
Photographer: Arshad Ali . 내 나이는 14세. 파키스탄 항구도시이자  파키스탄 해군 군사항인 카라치의 슬럼(빈민가)에서 살고 있다. 나는 건축자재인 벽돌을 만들고 있다.

"I don't like school. I went there once, but never again. "I wake up at seven in the morning and start getting ready to go to work."

나는 학교를 좋아하지 않는다. 난 학교에 단 한번만 가보았다. 다시는 못가봤다.
나는 아침 7시에 일어나 일하러 가기위해 준비한다.

"I come to work at eight in the morning and leave by seven at night. "I have to get the sand to where it is mixed with cement and then we add water."
나는 아침 8시에 일을 시작한다. 그리고 밤 7시에 일이 끝난다. 난 시멘트와 섞기 위해서 모래를 퍼 날라야 한다. 그리고 물도 부어야 한다(벽돌을 만들기 위해)

"I make 30 rupees a day (about 65 US cents). "It's very little but then I don't have a choice, do I?  "I give 25 rupees to my Amma [mum] and keep the rest. Amma loves me and I also eat whatever is there." 나는 하루에 30루피(650원)를 번다. 이 액수는 너무나 적은 액수다. 하지만 어쩔 수 없다. 나는 엄마에게 25루피(540원)를 드린다. 그리고 쉰다. 엄마는 나를 사랑한다. 나도 항상 무엇이든지 잘 먹는다.
